It all started with a tweet.
From here, Francisca created the name ‘Black Geographers’ and started looking into the reasons why the number of black people in Geography is low.
Francisca created a Instagram and Twitter for BG and started following various Geography-based accounts in the hope of finding other black geographers and creating a community for black geographers to network and connect.
Francisca is the face of BG and responsible for the oversight of our company.
Francisca is currently a BSc Geography student at York St John University. She has a fascination for natural disasters and hopes to do a MSc in Disaster Management & Resilience, focusing her research on disasters in Southeast Asia.
Adama is responsible for overseeing the company’s progress through business planning; core team hiring, evaluation, overall strategy reviews and reporting.
Adama is a BSc Geography graduate of University College London. She has a deep interest in environmental change in the global south, particularly in sub Saharan Africa. Her dissertation was one of the first studies to use both SCPs and trace metals from lakes in South Africa to model human impacts on the surrounding area.
Adama is currently completing an internship with a social enterprise consultancy firm, providing services to companies with a vested interest in the African continent.
